Andrey Santos has been unveiled as a new Manchester United player.
The 22-year-old has joined the Red Devils after both clubs reached an agreement for the midfielder worth £50 million (including £2 million in add-ons).
Santos is the third Chelsea player to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after Marc Cucurella joined Real Madrid and Tyrique George returned to Everton permanently.
Andrey Santo gives ridiculous reason to leave Chelsea
Explaining his decision to ditch Chelsea for Manchester United, Santos believes Michael Carrick's experience playing as a midfielder will be a huge benefit to him.
Speaking to Manchester United, Andrey Santos said: “Everything about Manchester United is special; it is an incredible feeling to join a club that some of my biggest idols have represented.
“As a midfielder, I am really excited to have the opportunity to learn from Michael Carrick, he is the perfect coach to help me take the next step in my career and push to achieve my dreams.
“Everybody told me about how ambitious the club is and the amazing environment that has been created here. I know just how strong the squad is and I cannot wait to fight together to compete for the biggest trophies.”
Santos does know who Alonso is, right?
The 44-year-old Spaniard is among football's greatest-ever players. He played at the highest-level, for Europe's biggest clubs, including Real Madrid, for nearly two decades.
If two UEFA Champions League, one La Liga title, three Bundesliga titles, one UEFA Super Cup, one German Cup, two Copa del Rey's, one Spanish Super Cup, one German Super Cup and an FA Cup isn't enough, Alonso also won the Euros twice with Spain as well as the 2010 World Cup.
Of course, no one is saying Carrick wasn't also an excellent midfielder during his playing days, but for Santos to suggest he can develop him where Alonso can't is just laughable.
Why Manchester United wanted Santos
The Red Devils' director of football, Jason Wilcox, added: “Andrey is an outstanding midfielder with excellent technical qualities and the ability to impact the game at both ends of the pitch.
“He was a key target for us in an important position, so we are delighted that he will join Michael’s squad so early in pre-season.
“Despite already having extensive experience, leadership abilities and proving his talent at the highest level, Andrey still has enormous potential to develop further, and we cannot wait to see him flourish at Manchester United.”
