"I'm hearing..." - Ben Jacobs drops Liam Delap bombshell

Liam Delap is very unlikely to be a Chelsea player next season following a disasterious opening season at Stamford Bridge.

Despite being expected to be England's next big breakthrough striker, the 23-year-old managed just one Premier League goal following a £30 million move from Ipswich Town.

Xabi Alonso, who will take charge on July 1, is rumoured to want the Blues to sign a replacement forward leaving Delap's long term future hugely uncertain.

Both Everton and Newcastle United have been heavily linked with a summer deal, but according to journalist Ben Jacobs, another club have entered the race.

Spurs 'one to watch' in race for Liam Delap

Discussing Delap's future in west London recently, Jacobs revealed that despite Chelsea and Spurs being rivals, the Lilywhites could be a potential destination for the struggling forward.

"I think that Liam Delap could be one to watch from Chelsea, another club that Tottenham wouldn't normally do too much business with," he said on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel.

"Newcastle, Everton, Tottenham, the three clubs that like Delap. Before we can clarify whether anything is going to develop there, Delap wants to stay and fight for his place, so he's going to understand where he is in this pecking order, with Joao Pedro number one under Xabi Alonso, who is going to be the number two striker?

"Is it still going to be Delap? Is it alternatively going to be Nico Jackson, who's coming back from a loan spell at Bayern? I think unlikely, but Jackson wants pre-season to see if he can change the new manager's mind.

"Once all that falls into place, if Delap is available on the market, Newcastle, Everton and Tottenham are the three Premier League clubs I'm hearing."

Delap still has five years left on his contract which sees him earn within the region of £100,000 per week.

Fans probably won't mind where Delap goes

Randal Kolo Muani's will return to PSG following a failed loan last season, leaving Roberto De Zerbi short of attacking options.

And even though Chelsea rarely do business with their London rivals, Delap is slightly different.

It's clear the Englishman hasn't been up to the standard required to be lead the Blues' line, and that seems unlikely to change anytime soon.

While a Chelsea player moving to Spurs is rare, in Delap's case, it might not be a bad deal, especially if Chelsea can recoup the full £30 million they paid for him just 12 months ago.
