Everton add second Chelsea player to shortlist after Tyrique George

Liam Delap is unlikely to still be a Chelsea player next season.

The 23-year-old endured a dreadful opening season at Stamford Bridge following his £30 million move from Ipswich Town.

Despite seeing his campaign disrupted by injuries, after scoring just once in the Premier League, it's unlikely the incoming Xabi Alonso will continue with Delap as his main striker.

As a result, the former Tractor Boy is set to leave west London, and in addition to Newcastle United, another Premier League club has emerged as a possible destination.

Everton considering signing two Chelsea players

Just like Chelsea, Everton are also in need of a new hitman.

The Toffees were in contention to qualify for European football next season before tailing off and slipping down the league. Their need to bring in a forward capable of delivering goals is obvious.

And according to the Daily Mail, that has led to Moyes being interested in signing Delap, potentially in addition to Tyrique George following his loan spell last season.

Even though George barely featured during his time at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Moyes spoke highly of the 20-year-old, suggesting he wants to sign him permanently this summer.

"I like Tyrique. We’ll try to get him more opportunities and minutes when we can. He’s got good control, he wants to score and you saw that today," the Scotsman said earlier this year.

A good deal for everyone involved

As for Delap, he could follow George to Merseyside in a deal that would undoubtedly benefit everyone, assuming the finances are right.

Chelsea know they'll do well to recoup the full £30 million they paid for the struggling 23-year-old just 12 months ago, but if they can get an offer close to it, they'd be wise to take it.

Delap is never going to fulfill his potential at Chelsea. The club, and expectations, are simply too big for him. He isn't the type of player to lead the line of a top club by himself and the rest of the team just do not play to his strengths.

Alonso will almost certainly let Delap go in the summer and make signing a top class, proven goalscorer one of his biggest priorities.

The Blues have been linked with former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, but it remains to be seen how keen the Uruguayan is to return to England following just one year in the Saudi Pro League.
