Clubs generally don't make huge investments in the middle of the season until it's urgent. Chelsea is also unlikely to make big moves in the upcoming winter transfer window, regardless of what the rumours claim. Several players have recently been linked with a move, but it remains to be seen which of them the Blues will truly consider. Due to injury concerns, they may look to bolster a few positions, if that.

However, Chelsea might not be in a financial position to make significant deals in January, as we witnessed earlier this year, they had to part ways with players first in order to fund summer signings. However, according to recent reports, the Blues may be able to secure a future fee for one of their loanees who has been performing really well this season.

The player in question is Aaron Anselmino, a highly rated defender who moved from Boca Juniors to Chelsea in 2024. He made his Blues debut at the Club World Cup before being sent on a season-long loan to Borussia Dortmund. He had a solid start there but sustained a muscular injury in August, keeping him out for several weeks.

Anselmino is back now, having made four Bundesliga games and appearing increasingly confident in Borussia Dortmund's backline, which has conceded the second-fewest goals in the league. He is also making an impact on the other end of the field, as he assisted Serhou Guirassy in a 4-0 Champions League victory over Villarreal and also scored his first Bundesliga goal this weekend, opening the scoring against a struggling Bayer Leverkusen.

Borussia Dortmund confirm plans to try to sign Chelsea player

As reported by The Standard, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said:

"I will have to pick up the phone in the next few days and will certainly call them.

“We hope that Aarón will stay on, of course. We have a very good connection with Chelsea."

It could very much happen, but probably should not. Anselmino is starting to show that he has the ability to develop into an important player for Chelsea in the future.

Chelsea do not have too many options at centre-back right now. So, the club could definitely do with someone like Anselmino. It would not be a smart move on their part to consider parting ways with the Argentine defender at this point in time, considering the potential that he has.
