Borussia Dortmund would like to sign Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea in the January transfer window. Chelsea are open to a loan move.
Chelsea find themselves in a position of needing the trim the squad down in the January transfer window. It is a nice position to be in, but a difficult task to carry out as it always come with an element of risk.
For this reason, Chelsea might look to make sure most of their outgoings are loan moves, where possible. This way, Chelsea can sit back and relax, knowing their younger players are being given opportunities to develop.
One of those players who could benefit from a temporary move away from Stamford Bridge is Carney Chukwuemeka.
Borussia Dortmund eye Chelsea star in handy January transfer window loan
According to a report from German football expert Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports, Borussia Dortmund are currently monitoring Carney Chukwuemeka with an eye for a January transfer.
Plettenberg reckons that Chelsea are open to a loan move, but not much has been said in the way of a permanent transfer.
In his own words, Plettenberg said: "Borussia Dortmund are closely monitoring Carney Chukwuemeka. The 21-year-old midfielder is under contract with Chelsea until 2028. BVB are looking to strengthen themselves in the number eight position. Chelsea would be open to a loan deal."
Chukwuemeka has not played in a single Premier League game this season for Chelsea. Enzo Maresca has always been transparent in his plans for Chukwuemeka and has never made false promises about game time at Stamford Bridge.
At the beginning of the season, Maresca said: "He's [Carney Chukwuemeka] a very good player, but for the amount of players we have... we decided at the start of the season that it would be better for him to leave. We wanted him to play 35 games rather than be here and play less games".
So, there doesn't appear to be much hope for Chukwuemeka unless he makes a move away. Borussia Dortmund is THE place to go out on loan, if you are struggling for game-time and need some big-game experience to develop.
So, this transfer story could certainly progress. We will wait to see if BVB are genuinely interested in signing the Chelsea youngster but if they are, then the Blues shouldn't step in the way and actually, they should facilitate a loan transfer since it benefits all parties.
