Chelsea have signed an incredible number of players since their change in ownership. For the most part, the transfer strategy has not worked, or we have yet to see the desired results. When you spend that kind of money, you have to be competing for the top prizes in football consistently, namely the Premier League and the Champions League. Unfortunately, the Blues have not been able to do that since the takeover.
Of course, this does not mean that there have not been great signings. The likes of Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer and a few others have been excellent additions. But for the most part, they have missed much more often than they have hit, when it comes to transfers.
One signing that has not really worked out is that of Filip Jorgensen. He was signed last year for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £20 million. The club clearly viewed him as a long-term addition, as evident from the seven-year deal he was handed.
Less than 18 months into that deal, it looks like the goalkeeper is considering a move away from Stamford Bridge. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Jorgensen is considering a potential January exit to get more game time ahead of the second half of the season. The decision is up to Chelsea, but the player is open to a new chapter ahead of the World Cup playoffs with Denmark as well.
Chelsea's £20m signing wants to leave the club already
It looks like Jorgensen was hoping for a starting role when he joined Chelsea. And to be fair, that would not have been an unreasonable target considering Robert Sanchez's form at the time.
Things have changed since then though. Sanchez has been very good this season, although he often does not get credit for his performances. On the other hand, Jorgensen simply does not look cut out for English football.
Many Chelsea fans will point to the game against Lincoln City in the League Cup. Jorgensen looked lost whenever an aerial ball came into the box and was not ready for the physicality of it. That was against League One opposition.
