Liam Delap's injury in the game against Fulham has provided Chelsea will an issue they had not been expecting late in the summer transfer window. It is believed that the Englishman could be out for at least six weeks although reports have suggested today that the actual timeline could be longer than first thought, which is even more worrying.
Chelsea have been left scrambling as a result. First, they decided to call off Nicolas Jackson's move to Bayern Munich, even though a loan with an option to buy deal had already been agreed and the player had flown to Germany for his medicals.
Reports coming out of Germany today have suggested that Bayern Munich have now pulled the plug on the move. So, Jackson now is headed back to Stamford Bridge. On the other hand, even more surprisingly, Chelsea have decided to call back another striker.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have agreed a deal with Sunderland to recall Marc Guiu. The player has accepted it as well and a final decision is set to follow on Jackson's situation.
Chelsea agree deal for striker after Liam Delap's injury
Guiu is a talent for sure but should Chelsea be looking to go into a Champions League game, and a tough one at that, with him as the number two option up top? Most probably not.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Jackson. He is not believed to be happy with how his move to Bayern Munich collapsed. Is there a possible way to revive that on deadline day?
Everything will become clear soon, with merely 24 hours left in the summer transfer window. If you ask us, Chelsea should have Jackson at the club at least until the winter, after which his future can be decided.
