Chelsea are heading into the upcoming season as one of the Premier League’s strongest sides, following the signings of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, and Jorrel Hato. Estevao has also completed his long-awaited move to Stamford Bridge and caught the eye in pre-season. Additionally, they have also added Andrey Santos to their squad, following an excellent loan spell at Strasbourg and a solid Club World Cup campaign.
On the other hand, the club managed to move some players in the opposite direction as well, with notable names like Djordje Petrovic, Noni Madueke, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Joao Felix leaving. And it’s not the end, as a few more players are expected to join this list soon, which includes Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, Nicolas Jackson, Renato Veiga, Carney Chukwuemeka, among others.
Meanwhile, questions were being asked regarding the future of Santos, and whether he would be sent on loan or transferred permanently due to the whole host of options in the midfield area. Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia are ahead of him in the pecking order, and Dario Essugo was extremely impressive in pre-season. Well, now reports suggest that Chelsea have taken a firm decision regarding that matter.
According to Fabrizio Romano (via PYS), Santos is not available for transfer and absolutely cannot leave on loan, despite some reports linking the Brazilian midfielder and Juventus. He is considered an important part of Chelsea next season. It would take an ‘out of market figure’ to sign him.
Chelsea clear stance on Andrey Santos’ future amid Juventus links
Santos spent last season at Strasbourg and impressed with his performances. He played a major role at the club, appearing in 38 matches in all competitions, with 17 goal involvements, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists.
The Brazilian international is one of the most talented individuals in the Chelsea squad, and the club’s decision not to let go of the player is understandable. While it is expected that the youngster will take some time to get used to playing in the Premier League, he has what it takes to succeed. The Blues have the depth required to give him that time to adjust.
Santos was given four opportunities in the Club World Cup and took part in the pre-season friendlies as well. So there’s no doubt that Chelsea are placing their trust in him for both the present and the future.
