Since their change in ownership, we have rarely seen Chelsea go out and bring in experienced players. So, their recent links with a 29-year-old Premier League defender and Colombian international are interesting to say the least. He would not have to make a long journey if a move to Stamford Bridge did materialise, as he currently plays for London rivals Crystal Palace.
Chelsea would not have a free race to sign the Crystal Palace defender though. He is also wanted by other top clubs around Europe if reports coming out of Spain are on the mark.
As reported by Fichajes, Chelsea have decided to enter the race for Daniel Munoz. Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona are competing for his signing as well.
Munoz plays as a right-back or a wing-back. He has been a standout performer for Crystal Palace. But is the type of player that Chelsea need right now? Or are there are other areas where their needs are more pressing?
Chelsea and Barcelona interested in 29-year-old defender
Chelsea do have a phenomenal right-back in Reece James. We know about his injury history but the load management has appeared to work on the Chelsea captain, who has mostly been fit for quite a while now and has not picked up any real issues in 2025. Let's hope it continues in this manner.
Other than James, Chelsea also have Malo Gusto. While he has not been as effective in Enzo Maresca's system, the Frenchman is still a decent backup option for sure. And Josh Acheampong can play there as well, although we have seen him as a centre-back this season.
Munoz is a very good player without a doubt. His numbers are proof of that. But it would be a lot smarter for Chelsea if they focus on other areas, like centre-back or striker.
