The Carabao Cup third round takes place on the weeks commencing 7 and 14 September. Due to the fact neither side are in Europe, it could be on either one of those midweeks.
However, with Leeds United in Premier League action on Monday 14 September against Newcastle, this rules out the second week. On top of this, the following Friday night, 18 September, Chelsea travel across West London to take Brentford.
Thus, baring any unforeseen factors, it will be on Wednesday 9 September, in between games against Arsenal and Hull for Alonso's side.
