Chelsea will fly to the United States for the Club World Cup this week. The Blues have decided not to include any players who were on loan last season in their squad for the tournament, with Andrey Santos being the only exception. Of course, it is a decision that has created a lot of debate and controversy.

One of those who will not be flying to America is Joao Felix, who was signed last summer but spent the second half of the season on loan at AC Milan. Now, there is another potential hint that the Portugal international could be on his way out.

Chelsea have revealed that Dario Essugo, who recently joined from Sporting CP, will wear the number 14 from next season. That was Felix's number, pointing to a possible transfer for the former Atletico Madrid forward.

In the first half of the season, Felix made 12 appearances, starting just three Premier League games and contributing one goal and one assist. He was considered an option off the bench at best, playing second fiddle as a number 10 and a winger.

Felix was loaned to AC Milan in February after struggling and failing to make an impression at Chelsea, but he was also unable to contribute much in Italy. He scored only 3 goals in 21 appearances at San Siro, one of which came in Serie A.

Giving Essugo Felix's former shirt number is a possible indication that he is not a part of Maresca's future plans. He's not alone, though, as Chelsea are also prepared to part with several other of his teammates.

AC Milan made it clear that they would not sign Felix on a permanent basis; therefore, Chelsea will have to find a new home for the 25-year-old this summer. However, it appears that one of his former teams may offer him a lifeline, with recent reports indicating that Benfica are interested in re-signing the Portuguese international.
