It is no secret that Chelsea are short of options up front right now. Liam Delap's return from injury, whenever that happens, will help in that regard. But perhaps the Blues need another centre-forward, with it quickly becoming clear that Joao Pedro is not an out-and-out number 9 and better in a combination role between a 9 and a 10.

Of course, most Chelsea fans would want the club to go out and sign a proven striker. But after what we have seen since the change in ownership, there is little chance that that will happen.

It is much more likely that Chelsea will bring in a youngster, hoping that he develops into a top striker. Sometimes that strategy has worked for the Blues. Most of the time, it has not. It has not deterred them though as they continue to try and change how football squad building is viewed.

The newest name on their transfer wishlist seems to be that of an Argentine striker currently playing his football in Italy. He does not have an impressive scoring record, but Chelsea are still interested.

As reported by Il Resto del Carlino (via TUTTOmercatoWEB), Chelsea have lined up for Santiago Castro. There are no offers at the moment but the Blues continue to monitor him.

Castro is 21 years of age but already a regular for Bologna. He scored 8 goals in 36 Serie A appearances last season. He has a goal and an assist in this campaign so far.

It is safe to say that those numbers do not jump out of the paper. Any move for him would be based on potential, as most Chelsea signings seem to be based on these days. So, not a surprise at all if a move is made.

It is believed that Bologna could look for a transfer fee in the region of €50 million to part ways with Castro. That does seem like a steep figure when you consider that he is still completely unproven at the highest level.
