Chelsea could be closing in on another surprise addition and youngster to their defensive ranks, with Atalanta youngster Honest Ahanor reportedly edging closer to a move to Stamford Bridge.

The 18-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign in Italy last season, making 35 appearances for Atalanta across all competitions and scoring once. Across his highlight reel, the Italian-Nigerian looks good on the ball, fast and brings intensity to his defensive work.

Ahanor has already shown plenty of maturity in his performances despite his age, particularly with his ability to operate effectively from the left side. A potential younger regen of Jorrel Hato, with more potential sounds exciting for Xabi Alonso and co.

His potential arrival would represent another investment in Chelsea’s long-term future, with the club continuing to target some of Europe’s most promising young talents. Ahanor is regarded as one of the exciting emerging wide defenders in Serie A, making it little surprise that the Blues have made their interest concrete.

If Alonso is for the long-term then this transfer will fit in nicely with a clear plan for the Atalanta star.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the club are now advanced in negotiations to sign the left-footed centre-back. The proposed deal could be worth around €40 million, a significant fee for a player who has only just turned 18.

The current plan could see Ahanor join immediately and spend next season on loan at another Premier League club, allowing him to gain regular senior experience before returning to Stamford Bridge and competing for a first-team place in 2027.

For Chelsea supporters, another deal of this nature would underline the club’s continued commitment to building for the future. And with Fabrizio Romano’s trademark “Here We Go” potentially on the horizon, it looks increasingly likely that Ahanor will be the latest young talent welcomed through the doors at Stamford Bridge.

Another Chelsea "Here We Go" tonight

That transfer news goes for the sale of Nicolas Jackson to Aston Villa with the forward rejoining Unai Emery in the Midlands for a reported £65 million, it represents another significant piece of business for Chelsea. The deal follows Liam Delap’s departure, meaning the club have now raised more than £100 million from the sales of two unwanted strikers.

We are starting to see the club take shape and making good transfer decisions after years of scratching our head with what was coming in to Chelsea.
