After signing Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens, it looks like Chelsea have now turned their focus towards parting ways with players who no longer have a future at Stamford Bridge. Deals have been agreed for both Noni Madueke and Djordje Petrovic to leave for Arsenal and Bournemouth, respectively. And now, it looks like a third agreement might not be far away either.
Some players just seem to have all the talent in the world but just cannot put it all together into a package that sees them become a top player. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case with Joao Felix.
Felix has shown flashes of his incredible ability everywhere he has been. But he has not been able to establish himself anywhere as a key player since leaving Benfica. That includes clubs like Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Barcelona. Could a return to Portugal be next in his future?
As reported by Mais Futebol, Benfica has made significant progress in negotiations for Felix and is confident of securing an agreement for his return in the next few hours. The Eagles have decided to sign the Portuguese international permanently, after initially considering a loan move. The fee Chelsea will receive is still being kept confidential by the parties involved.
Chelsea forward close to agreeing Stamford Bridge exit in the next hours
Felix has the ability to play in a number of positions across the pitch. But he has not been able to establish himself as a starter in any of them.
The Portuguese international certainly has his moments and looks world-class at times. But that never lasts and his inconsistency is the biggest reasons why he has not reached the heights that he was expected to.
There is no doubt that Felix has played his best football in a Benfica jersey. And if things go according to plan, we will see him back in those colours very soon.
Felix is not the only player of this profile who looks set to be heading for the exit door either. Christopher Nkunku could be on his way out as well as his time with Chelsea has proven to be a disappointment. He was expected to be the face of this team and instead, he has been a bit-part player at best. So, the time might be right to part ways and European giants like Manchester United and Bayern Munich have been linked with the French international.
