It is no secret that Chelsea want to get a few more signings over the line before the summer transfer window closes. They are working on deals for Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho. And it is unclear whether they want to add another centre-back to their ranks following Levi Colwill's injury or not. But before any of that can be done, they need to part ways with a few of their current players first.

It is very clear that Christopher Nkunku's name belongs on that list. He has been linked with a move away, going back to the winter transfer window. But nothing has materialised so far.

It had seemed like Bayern Munich were the most likely destination for Nkunku but the Bavarian giants seem to only want a loan deal, while Chelsea are eyeing a permanent exit. Instead, it is another Bundesliga club which seems to have emerged as frontrunners for the French international's signature now and it is one he is very familiar with.

As reported by The Guardian, RB Leipzig have stepped up attempts to sign Nkunku from Chelsea on a permanent basis. A deal is not close but there is confidence that they will be able to come to an agreement on a transfer fee.

That is the most positive update that we have gotten regarding an Nkunku exit in a long time. There now seems to be genuine hope that it could happen.

Of course, until it ends up going through, Chelsea cannot go ahead and push to complete deals for Simons and Garnacho. So, let's wait and watch how this entire situation plays out over the coming days and possibly weeks.

It is worth mentioning that Nkunku is not the only player whose exit could open up the transfer situation. Others like Axel Disasi, Renato Veiga, Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Jackson and more are expected to depart before the summer window closes.
