Chelsea star Marc Cucurella is not speaking to Barcelona amid reports he is ready to join the Spanish giants. The Blaugrana are said to be interested in a deal for the Spaniard this summer, and he himself has admitted he would find it hard to reject his boyhood club, where he came through the famous La Masia academy.
The reports in Spain that Cucurella has already agreed to be a Barcelona player have led to concern in West London, with the full-back the clear starter on the left side for the Blues. But Chelsea fans need not worry - at least yet.
Cucurella has communications shut off
Cucurella is currently at the World Cup with Spain, and as he prepares for Monday's first game with Cape Verde, he has already shut off any communications related to his future.
He told Cope: "I don't want to know anything. I want to enjoy this. It would not be fair to be thinking of other things. I don't like to go with worries, I already have enough of them with my family."
As Cucurella says, it's hard enough for these players to compete at a World Cup while not seeing their families for much of the competition, so further distractions are not going to be realistically dealt with without a compromise on performance.
This Spain squad has developed a habit of being fully dialed in during tournaments, and it led them well given they won the last Euros, and they are one of the favourites to win this World Cup.
Cucurella was vital to that Euro 2024 effort, standing out as one of the best players at the whole tournament, and a similar level of performance this summer will certainly help La Roja's chances, while it may also help Chelsea bag a bigger fee if he is to move on this summer.
Being the character he is, Cucurella also spoke about the prospect of winning the World Cup, and he added that if they pull it off, he will have a picture of his coach, Luis de la Fuente's, face tattooed on his body. That would be quite the sight, and it's safe to say there aren't too may people with a tattoo of their boss's face worldwide. But if anyone is going to break trends, it's Cucurella, who certainly has a reputation for being a joker around the dressing room for both club and country.
