Chelsea make initial enquiry for striker amid ‘do-or-die’ crunch talks

Chelsea have numerous strikers but none are expected to play big roles next season.

After BlueCo confirmed Xabi Alonso will take charge from July 1, the Spaniard is preparing to oversee a summer of change at Stamford Bridge, and bringing in a new number nine is top of the agenda.

Liam Delap was a huge disappointment in his first season following since his £30 million move from Ipswich Town. Marc Guiu has barely been able to get a game and the club's feelings on Nicolas Jackson were made clear when they allowed him to join Bayern Munich on loan last summer.

Clearly in need of an outright goalscorer, the Blues are expected to bring in a new forward in time for the 2026-27 campaign, and Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic has emerged as an option.

Chelsea make Dusan Vlahovic enquiry

The 26-year-old has spent the past four years in Turin but faces an uncertain future ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the month.

The Serbia international is represented by his father, Milos and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea have made contact over a potential deal to bring the forward to Stamford Bridge this summer.

It isn't known how positive the Blues' enquiry was received, and although Vlahovic wouldn't be against staying in Serie A, there is a genuine possibility he becomes a free agent in the next few weeks.

Vlahovic's father is rumoured to be involved in 'do-or-die' crunch talks with Juventus but failure to reach an agreement will see the striker on the lookout for a new club.

Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Newcastle United are also credited with having an interest in the former Fiorentina man.

Juventus in tough spot following Champions League exile

Even though Vlahovic might be enjoying life in Turin, he isn't likely to slash his salary just to stay, and Juventus' failure to qualify for next season's Champions League has put them in a precarious position financially.

The 38-time Serie A champions are in a similar position to Chelsea. They have to find a ways to balance the books, and renewing Vlahovic's deal, which currently sees him earn around £400,000-per week, is unlikely to be a top priority; it might not even be possible.

During his time with Juventus, Vlahovic, who has 41 senior international caps for Serbia, has scored 68 goals and provided 16 assists in 168 matches in all competitions. He was part of the Juventus side that lifted the 2023-24 Coppa Italia.
