After a draw against Brentford last weekend, Chelsea lost 3-1 to Bayern Munich away at the Allianz Arena. And they simply cannot afford to go three games without a win this early in the season. Manchester United are in terrible form and even though Old Trafford has proven to be a tough ground for the Blues, despite the lean years since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure, fans will be hoping for a win this time around.
They were handed an injury scare in the game against Bayern Munich. Cole Palmer, who scored on the night and had a second ruled out by VAR, was seen clutching the inside of his leg in added time.
Of course, Palmer is believed to have been dealing with a groin issue for a while. So, the last thing that Chelsea need right now is for him to be out on the sidelines with an injury, having missed a couple of game already this season.
There is some positive news in that regard. As reported by Football London, Enzo Maresca said while speaking about Palmer:
"Cole is okay. We have a session now, we flew back yesterday. We need to assess some players, we have some doubt. We didn't have a session since Wednesday's game, but we will see."
Chelsea injury boost confirmed before Manchester United game
Palmer is very important to this Chelsea team. If there were any doubts about that, they should have been dispelled after that Bayern Munich game. Not only did he score a brilliant goal and had the ball in the back of the net a second time, but he also looked like the only one capable of making something happen at that level.
Of course, Palmer has already had a decent bit of success when facing Manchester United. Who can forget his hattrick in that 4-3 win at Stamford Bridge?
Alejandro Garnacho had scored twice in that game for Manchester United. But this time around, he will be in a blue jersey and could potentially be handed his first start since joining Chelsea.
