Over the course of the summer, Chelsea have been linked with a number of players. Earlier in the ongoing transfer window, they went out and signed Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund. The fans are excited to see what he brings to the table for Enzo Maresca's side. On the other hand, it looks like the Blues might still be interested in strengthening their ranks on the wings.
There is good reason for that. Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke have both departed this summer. Also, there is no clarity about when Mykhailo Mudryk will be available once again.
It is believed that Chelsea continue to look to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United, although an offer could be made later in the window. On the other hand, it must be mentioned that he is not the only winger on the club's radar.
As reported by Nizaar Kinsella, Chelsea are among Malick Fofana's admirers but they also have a strong interest in Garnacho. Everton have struggled to convince him to move thus far.
Chelsea interested in Belgian international wanted by Everton
So, it looks like Fofana might be the alternative to Garnacho for Chelsea. He is exactly the profile of player that the club have been known to sign since the change in ownership.
Fofana is 20 years of age and is coming off a breakout season with Lyon. In the 24/25 campaign, he scored 11 goals and provided 6 assists in 41 appearances in 2280 minutes of football in total.
That is great output for a player of his age and is only expected to get better. He has also represented the Belgium national team.
Many might feel that Fofana is a better option for Chelsea right now than Garnacho. After all, we have seen the Argentine struggle in recent times.
That being said, so many players have left Manchester United in recent years and been revelations elsewhere. Just look at Scott McTominay at Napoli. So, it would be a mistake to write off Garnacho completely. There is clearly talent there and the Chelsea recruitment team have been pretty solid with their choices so far.
