Chelsea's defence remains a problem for them. Even in the comfortable 5-1 win against a 10-man Ajax last night in the Champions League, there were some nervous moments at the back. One of them was Tosin Adarabioyo giving away a needless penalty that could have proven costly under different circumstances.

Tosin is the most experienced player in this team. He cannot be the one making such mistakes. To be fair, he was probably brought in to be a rotational option who has ended up becoming a starter this season due to the injury problems that Chelsea have got at centre-back right now.

So, signing another centre-back might be a good idea for Chelsea. And it looks like one from Bayern Munich is drawing their interest.

As reported by BILD, Chelsea, Liverpool, Inter Milan and Real Madrid are interested in Dayot Upamecano. His current contract at Bayern Munich runs out next summer and they have not been able to agree on an extension yet.

Upamecano has had his struggles at Bayern Munich. But he has managed to get past them to develop into a regular starter for them right now.

So, it is easy to understand why Bayern Munich would not want to lose him. Upamecano is 26 years of age and will be entering his prime on the pitch. So, his leaving as a free agent would be a major blow for the Bavarian giants and something that they would want to avoid.

Perhaps that could even lead to a cut-price transfer in January if it becomes clear that an extension won't be agreed between the two parties. Let's see how this situation plays out.

Now, coming to Chelsea. Are the Blues in a position to sign someone like Upamecano? He would be expecting a world-class salary and we all know that the London club have been all about working within a structure since the change in ownership. That would make any move for the Bayern Munich centre-back tough to pull off.

Then there is the competition from top clubs like Liverpool, Real Madrid and Inter Milan. So, all things considered, it would come as a surprise if this move ends up happening. That being said, if Chelsea are willing to change up some things regarding their structure, they might very well be in contention in the transfer race to sign Upamecano from Bayern Munich.
