At this point in time, Chelsea have a lot of former Manchester City players in their ranks. Of course, Cole Palmer has become the face of the Blues since his move in 2023. Other than that, they also have Romeo Lavia, Tosin Adarabioyo and Jamie Gittens. Even Enzo Maresca was part of their coaching team before becoming a manager.

Now, it looks like another former Manchester City player is on Chelsea's radar. He is currently playing his football for FC Barcelona though.

Centre-back is a position where Chelsea need to improve. They simply are not good enough defensively to challenge for top honours. But the latest name to be linked with them will not fill the fans with confidence either.

It appears that Eric Garcia of Barcelona is someone Chelsea have on their radar right now. As reported by TBR Football, Graeme Bailey said:

"I am told Garcia is someone Chelsea would want in January, but the chances are he will have signed a new deal."

Garcia's current deal with Barcelona runs out at the end of this season. So, it is not hard to understand why Chelsea might believe that he would be a good value signing for the club.

The issue is, he would not be someone who improves Chelsea as a team. Garcia simply does not seem to be that level of talent. Yes, he has gotten a decent bit of playing time for Barcelona but that does not mean that he will be able to arrive and take the Blues forward.

On the contrary, it feels like he is the level of defender that Chelsea have quite a few of at this point in time. The aim has to be to sign someone better than that so that there is some improvement. Otherwise, this team will be stuck in the same place. And that can never be the target at a club of this size.
