Alejandro Garnacho is not the first ex-Manchester United player to revitalize his career elsewhere. Antony and Marcus Rashford have both excelled in La Liga at Real Betis and Barcelona, respectively.
Garnacho came through United's academy after also playing youth soccer for Atlético Madrid and Getafe. He made his debut for the Red Devils when he was just 17, a match which was against his future club, Chelsea.
The Argentine international went on to make 144 appearances for United, where he scored 26 goals, with 22 assists. The winger also helped the club win the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.
However, Garnacho did have disciplinary issues at United, which led to a difficult relationship with his manager, Ruben Amorim. The winger vented his frustration at not starting the Europa League final in public. Also, a social media post where Garnacho was pictured wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Rashford on the back did not go down well.
Manchester United's loss is Chelsea's gain
Since joining Chelsea this summer, Garnacho has looked back to his best. He set up Malo Gusto and Pedro Neto in the Blues' 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend. The Argentine also scored in the Champions League against Qarabağ last week.
Garnacho has so far scored just one Premier League goal this season, which came in a 2-1 defeat to Sunderland. He still has a long way to go until reaching his potential, but he appears to be on the right track at Stamford Bridge. If Garnacho can remain disciplined, then there is no reason he cannot become a key part of Chelsea's future.
Despite his form for Enzo Maresca's side, Garnacho was not included in the recent Argentina roster. He has not played for his country since a World Cup qualifier against Paraguay last year.
Garnacho was born in Madrid, Spain, but qualifies for Argentina through his mother. He has eight caps for La Albiceleste. However, he is yet to score for them. Although he has registered one assist setting up Paulo Dybala in a 3-0 win over Chile.
Playing in the World Cup is a dream for every player, but Garnacho has the misfortune of being up against some outstanding players with Argentina. Their forward line still includes the legendary Lionel Messi, so it will be difficult for him to break back into Lionel Scaloni's plans.
Garnacho has made a bright start to his Chelsea career, and there is still a lot of soccer to be played ahead of the World Cup. Therefore, Garnacho still has an outside chance of going to the tournament in North America next summer.
