Chelsea have successfully secured the signing of a number of their targets, starting with Liam Delap and Joao Pedro for the striker position, and moving on to Jamie Gittens for the winger role. Additionally, the club have also agreed on a deal with Ajax to bring in Jorrel Hato, with only the official confirmation pending.
That said, Chelsea are not done for the window. They are already close to a deal for Xavi Simons and might also look to bring in more reinforcements.
The club could still target an experienced centre-back to further strengthen the area, despite securing Hato, who could mostly be viewed as cover for Marc Cucurella. On that note, it seems one of their rumoured transfer targets for that role may not be interested in a move this summer.
One of the centre-backs Chelsea have been linked with in recent times is Kim Min-jae. He has not exactly met expectations since joining Bayern Munich and has unsurprisingly been linked with a move away.
Chelsea-linked player wants to stay at his current team
Florian Plettenberg posted on X stating that sources close to Min-jae have rejected any claims of the centre-back looking to leave Bayern Munich this summer. They said:
"Min-jae is fully focused on FC Bayern and will stay, unless something extraordinary happens."
Chelsea have been linked with a move for Kim Min-jae for quite some time now. The former Napoli defender joined Bayern Munich in 2023. However, the South Korean international’s time at the German club hasn’t gone as he would have hoped.
During the Club World Cup, Kim didn’t get a single minute of action despite being fit to play. The arrival of Jonathan Tah won’t help his case either, which could cause the 28-year-old to consider a move away. Could Stamford Bridge be his next destination?
Chelsea are set to undergo a significant reshuffle at the back. Players like Axel Disasi, Renato Veiga, Ben Chilwell, and possibly Trevoh Chalobah are expected to leave. While the Blues would still have a decent number of defensive options, especially once Hato arrives, but with a long season ahead it wouldn’t hurt to add a few more.
All things considered, these are just rumours at this point and the club could opt not to sign any more defenders and rather focus on other areas. As we enter the final month of the transfer window, it remains to be seen how Chelsea wrap up their business and which positions they decide to prioritise and which ones they choose to overlook.
