Chelsea are among the favourites to poach soon-to-be free-agent Marcos Senesi this summer.
The Bournemouth centre back is out of contract at the end of the season and is weighing up his options ahead of the transfer window opening.
The 28-year-old has been one of the most impressive defenders in recent times. He has commanded Bournemouth's backline expertly and looks ready to take the next step in his career.
His profile as an experienced, and proven, Premier League player, combined with the fact he'll soon be available on a free transfer, makes him an incredibly attractive option.
Chelsea in mix to sign Bournemouth's Marcos Senesi on free transfer
Unsurprisingly, Chelsea are among the teams trying to convince Senesi to join them. They're not alone in their pursuit, though.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur would also like to sign the Argentine.
"Marcos Senesi is on the verge of choosing his next team.
Agents are in close contact with Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United. "
It goes without saying that the Red Devils will be Chelsea's biggest rivals in this transfer battle. Tottenham Hotspur's precarious position in the relegation zone make them huge outsiders to land one of the league's most reliable centre backs.
Even if Roberto De Zerbi can somehow guide his struggling Lilywhites to safety, the project on offer in North London is no where near as exciting as the one at Old Trafford, or Stamford Bridge.
Senesi is the type of defender Chelsea have been missing
Chelsea currently have six senior centre backs in their squad but none appear truly up to the task. Levi Colwill is probably the best of the bunch, but his ACL injury, which he suffered last year, has cast doubt over whether or not he'll be able to fulfil his potential.
Combine that with Robert Sanchez's nervousness and lack of impact in goal, it's obvious why rebuilding the defence will be BlueCo's priority this summer.
So it isn't hard to see why the Blues' sporting department are attracted to Senesi. Even though he'll demand a significant signing on fee and wages, the South American just feels like a Chelsea player. He's big, strong, very aggressive and a leader among men.
During his time at the Vitality Stadium, the 28-year-old, who joined from Feynoord in 2022, has featured in over 122 matches, scoring six and registering nine assists along the way.
While Senesi may not be associated with a Galactico-type aura, he definitely has the potential to be one of BlueCo's best pieces of business post-takeover.
