A few days earlier, rumours had emerged that Chelsea had made an enquiry about Antoine Semenyo and wanted to explore the potential of signing him this January. Hours later, another briefing arrived. This one suggested that the club were happy with the options that they already had and were not looking to move forward for the Bournemouth ace.

This became a point of frustration for many fans. Why would Chelsea even bother to explore a move for Semenyo if they were happy with the options at hand?

Manchester City have quickly emerged as the heavy favourites to complete the signing of Semenyo this January. But on the other hand, that could help the Blues sign a long-term target of theirs. As reported by Aaron Ramiro, Chelsea have made an enquiry for Oscar Bobb.

Bobb is one of the most highly-rated youngsters to have come through the Manchester City academy setup in recent times. Of course, Chelsea have plenty such players already. Cole Palmer, Tosin Adarabioyo, Jamie Gittens, Romeo Lavia and Liam Delap, all fall under that category. Enzo Maresca used to coach there as well.

Bobb has made 47 appearances for Manchester City so far in his career. But if Semenyo does end up joining the club, it could see the 22-year-old slip further down the pecking order. He has already struggled for consistent playing time in Pep Guardiola's side.

That might not bother Chelsea though. When the club signed Palmer, he was not a starter for Manchester City either. But since leaving, he has developed into an absolute superstar of the game and is the Blues' best player right now.

So, let's see if Chelsea are able to complete a deal to sign Bobb or not. One would imagine that other clubs would want him as well, if he became available.
