Chelsea have been very active in recent weeks when it comes to parting ways with players. Noni Madueke, Djordje Petrovic and more are on their way out. Other names like Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix are expected to follow. But amid all this, it looks like the outlook is very different on one player they were eager to see depart just a year back. Then again, 12 months is a long time.
Chelsea's centre-back area remains one worth strengthening this summer. It has been marked by injury problems and underperformance in recent years.
There is some reason to be positive as well though. Levi Colwill seems to be developing well, for one. And Trevoh Chalobah has certainly enhanced his reputation over the past few months.
Chelsea seemed pretty eager to see him leave on a permanent basis last summer but did not receive a satisfactory offer. Ultimately, he joined Crystal Palace on loan. Most assumed that was the beginning of the end for him at Stamford Bridge but he has enjoyed quite the revival. The academy graduate was recalled in the middle of the season due to injuries, and has been a consistent contributor since.
Chelsea make U-turn on player they were eager to see leave last year
It looks like Chalobah's good form has not gone unnoticed. As reported by The Chelsea Chronicle, Matt Law told the ‘London is Blue’ podcast:
"They’re certainly not encouraging bids."
Chalobah has certainly earned all the praise that he has been getting lately. Not many would have expected him to not only start against a team like PSG, who had scored four past Real Madrid days back, in a Club World Cup final but also keep a cleansheet.
Of course, Chelsea have been linked with quite a few centre-backs in recent times and one is definitely needed. That being said, Chalobah has proven that he is more than good enough to be a part of this squad.
