After a few tough years in the 2010s, it looks like La Masia are now back to producing some of football's biggest talents on a consistent basis once again. The likes of Lamine Yamal, Gavi and Pau Cubarsi certainly fall under that category. Chelsea were heavily linked with Fermin Lopez this summer. And it looks like they already have another one on their radar.
Chelsea signed Marc Guiu from Barcelona last summer and he might be set for a big role at Stamford Bridge over the next few months after Liam Delap was injured and Nicolas Jackson left for Bayern Munich. And they could look to repeat the trick in the future.
It is unclear whether Chelsea will go back and try to sign Lopez in the future. But they already have their sights set on a player who has not even made his first-team debut for Barcelona yet.
As reported by Fichajes, Dro Fernandez has become one of the most-watched players in European football. His talent and potential have caught the attention of major clubs such as Manchester City and Chelsea.
Chelsea and Man City interested in Barcelona's next superstar
Fernandez has caught the eye at the youth levels for his creativity, technical ability and vision. It is not hard to see that he is arguably the next big thing to come out of La Masia.
He got his chance in pre-season and impressed. And from what we have seen over the past few years, it is only a matter of time before he makes his official debut for the senior team in a competitive match.
Over the years, it has been historically tough to convince youngsters to leave Barcelona. But there have been some rare examples. Chelsea did try to sign one of them this summer in the form of Xavi Simons, before he ended up at Tottenham Hotspur.
Ilaix Moriba is another name that comes to mind. Chelsea had been linked with him as well before he ended up at RB Leipzig. His trajectory has gone downwards since then though and he now finds himself at Celta Vigo, hoping to bring his career back on track.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Fernandez. But if Chelsea do indeed want to sign him, they have a tough task on their hands getting a deal done, whether it be due to Barcelona or Manchester City.
