Chelsea were able to sign a number of their targets in the recent summer transfer window and one would imagine that the squad is stronger now than it was last season, although injuries have left them in a tough spot for the time being. That being said, there are some positions which remain weak. The number 10 has to be one of them.
Cole Palmer is injured at the moment. Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku left on a permanent basis this summer. And Facundo Buonanotte has been brought in on a straight loan deal from Brighton & Hove Albion to act as the cover option, although he was not even included in the Champions League squad.
For a large portion of the summer, it had looked like Chelsea were definitely going to sign Xavi Simons. But it looks like budget constraints, or some other issue, might have prevented them from doing that and the Dutchman joined Tottenham Hotspur late in the window instead.
The number 10 position remains one in need of strengthening in the future though. And it looks like the Blue already have a top target picked out, if reports coming out of Spain are accurate.
Chelsea reportedly ready to pay €100m to sign future superstar
As reported by Fichajes, Chelsea have already identified Morgan Rogers as one of their major future targets. They are willing to pay almost €100 million for his signing. The London club plans to return to the fray in 2026 to complete the signing of the Aston Villa player, after failing to finalise his arrival during the last summer transfer window.
Rogers won the PFA Young Player of the Year recently. The likes of Palmer, Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard, Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane and more have held that award recently. But then, there have also been the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kewell, who never met those early expectations.
The reaction of the Aston Villa fans to Rogers' exit rumours has been quite interesting. A large section of them seems to be open to the idea and feel that he has not performed at a high level for quite some time now. So, is he someone Chelsea should go out and spend a €100 million transfer fee on, if the rumours are indeed accurate?
