It has been a little while since Chelsea have completed any signings. Their last addition was Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund. Since then, plenty of players have departed Stamford Bridge while no fresh additions have been made. But now, it looks like things are picking up pace in the transfer market once again.

For a while, it has looked like Chelsea are looking for a versatile player who can feature on both wings and as a number 10 as well. Morgan Rogers and Eberechi Eze are two such names. Now, Xavi Simons has emerged as a target as well.

In fact, it looks like Chelsea are working hard behind the scenes to sign Simons this summer. They are even being considered frontrunners for the Dutch international.

As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea have a serious interest in Simons. There have been no club-to-club talks yet. First, it needs to be checked whether an agreement can be reached between the Blues and the player. The Club World Cup winners are currently the most concrete option for the Dutchman.

In a further update since then, Plettenberg has said that further talks between Chelsea and Simons' camp are taking place this evening. The Blues are working on reaching a verbal agreement. RB Leipzig are ready to part with him but want at least €70 million all-in, while the Stamford Bridge outfit want to pay less.

Simons was not able to make the grade at PSG but has been a standout for PSV and RB Leipzig. He is also a regular for the Dutch national team with the ability to play in multiple positions.

So, Simons could be a great signing for Chelsea in the long run. Let's see if they are able to find an agreement with the player and RB Leipzig.
