Chelsea have been very busy with outgoings in recent weeks. It looks like the Blues want to part ways with their fringe players before making any further additions in the ongoing summer window. Of course, the club deserve a ton of credit for the significant amount of transfer fees that they bring in consistently. And it looks like another major one could be on the cards.
Chelsea are expected to sign a centre-back this summer. But before that, it looks like they are ready to bid farewell to one, if their transfer valuation of the player is met.
It was just last summer that Renato Veiga was signed for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £12 million. But he was sent out on loan to Juventus in the second of the campaign, where he was able to establish himself as a consistent starter.
Now, it looks like a permanent exit could be on the cards for Veiga. And he has already agreed to join one of Spain's top clubs, although the two clubs are yet to agree on a transfer.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea player has agreed to join Spanish giants
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Veiga has said yes to Atletico Madrid. There are no issues on personal terms. The two clubs remain in direct talks for the defender. The Blues insist on a package reaching €40m with add-ons included.
There is no doubt that Veiga is a very talented defender. He has looked solid whenever given a chance at Chelsea. But if Enzo Maresca does not view him as a starter, it might be best to part ways when his transfer valuation is at its peak, which appears to be now, after a successful loan stint at Juventus.
Let's see what the future holds for Veiga. Atletico Madrid are the favourites to sign him but there is a long way to go before a deal is over the line.
