Chelsea were very active in the summer transfer window, signing several players, including Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Jorrel Hato, and Alejandro Garnacho, among others. Additionally, some high-profile players have left the club as well, freeing up space and bringing in funds.

However, Chelsea failed to strike off an important objective they had on their list going into the summer. They were unable to part with Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi, both of whom are clearly not in Enzo Maresca’s plans.

With the transfer window still open in a small number of leagues, there was a bit of optimism left that Chelsea would manage to find new homes for the duo shortly. That said, it looks like that won’t be the case if recent reports are to be believed.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea had planned to move Disasi and Sterling to the Saudi Pro League, with their windows not closing until 23 September. However, a move for either player now looks unlikely, with the pair set to continue at Stamford Bridge until the January window after rejecting moves away.

Both players were sent out on loan to separate Premier League clubs in the last campaign, but neither of them succeeded in delivering impressive performances. While Sterling had joined Arsenal at the beginning of the season, Disasi spent the second half at Aston Villa.

There have been suggestions that Sterling wants to stay in London and prefers to move to a club based in the city. As for the French defender, he is reluctant to leave Europe.

Maresca has already made his intentions clear that he has no plans to reintegrate the players into the first-team squad. So, Chelsea seem to be stuck in a tough spot for now, and will have to try again in January to find them new homes.
