Chelsea have a long standing interest in Mike Maginan.
The AC Milan goalkeeper has continually been linked with the Blues, but has so far failed to ever the make a switch.
Chelsea's interest isn't surprising either. There continues to be questions raised over Robert Sanchez and with Mike Penders lacking Premier League experience, it's understandable why Xabi Alonso might be keen to bring in a number one.Â
And despite several failed attempts, this summer could finally be the time Maignan leaves Milan for west London.
Chelsea open talks to sign AC Milan's Mike Maginan
Although Maginan is currently away in North America after being included in Didier Deschamps' France squad for the 2026 World Cup, that hasn't stopped Chelsea testing the water over his club future.
According to a recent report from MilanNews24, the Blues are in talks with the goalkeeper's agent Jonathan Kebe trying to understand if a deal this summer would be possible.
The one thing potentially in the Blues' favour is the fact that despite the 30-year-old signing a contract extension less than 12 months ago, he is believed to now be open to leaving the San Siro following Max Allegri's controversial sacking in May.
Ruben Amorim doesn't want to lose Maginan
In light of Allegri's exit, which came off the back of AC Milan failing to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League, former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has taken charge of the Rossoneri.
The Portuguese tactician has joined the Italian club on a three year deal and is set to have a big say in their summer transfer business.
Amorim is known for making big calls and is likely to let a player determine which direction he wants the side to move in. Fans saw this approach during his short stint at Old Trafford.
Frustratingly for Chelsea, the 41-year-old is believed to want to keep Maignan as his starting goalkeeper, suggesting any move in the coming weeks is something the Frenchman would have to force.
It remains to be seen if Maignan would put in a formal transfer request, but Chelsea will certainly be hoping their revived interest turns the player's head. There are no guarantees though, and even less so after they also failed to qualify for European football next season.
Since joining AC Milan from Lille over 11 years ago, Maignan has kept 74 clean sheets in 204 matches in all competitions.
