Transfer windows are always difficult to predict. Nobody would have expected that Chelsea would get a €80 million-plus transfer fee to part ways with Nicolas Jackson, after his two underwhelming campaigns at Stamford Bridge. On the other hand, there are established names like Raheem Sterling, struggling to draw any interest.
There is another Chelsea player who was in demand this summer. But despite his lack of opportunities at the club right now, he decided to stay put. One has to wonder what the thought process behind that was.
As reported by The Athletic, Axel Disasi had loan bids from three Premier League clubs. But he did not want to go to any of them.
Surely, one would think that going to a Premier League club on loan and playing would be better than sitting on the bench or in the reserves at Chelsea. Yet, it looks like Disasi chose the latter despite having ample chances to leave on a temporary basis and bring his career back on track.
Chelsea player rejected bids from three Premier League clubs
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Disasi. It is possible that he could still leave the club in the coming days with transfer windows still open in several countries across the globe.
It feels unlikely though considering a move could not be engineered over the course of the entire summer transfer window. It was very clear from the beginning that Disasi was available, having spent the second half of the previous campaign out on loan at Aston Villa.
Let's see what the future holds for Disasi. It is hard to imagine that he will be able to get back into the first-team plans unless there is a series of injuries at centre-back that leaves Enzo Maresca short of options.
