This summer transfer window has been full of twists and turns for Chelsea. It was just yesterday that Tottenham Hotspur swooped in and signed Xavi Simons, after he had been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for weeks and even had personal terms in place. On the other hand, the Blues pulled off a surprise of their own, agreeing a loan deal for Facundo Buonanotte of Brighton & Hove Albion out of nowhere.
Now, there is another transfer twist involving Chelsea. And this is involving an exit that was agreed but won't be happening anymore.
Liam Delap suffered an injury against Fulham that could keep him out for six to eight weeks, which is the initial belief. As a result, Joao Pedro would be the only striker left at Chelsea if Nicolas Jackson ended up completing his loan move to Bayern Munich. Now that seems to be off, as we reported earlier in the evening.
As reported by The Standard, the decision not to move forward with the deal was made by Chelsea's officials while Jackson was on board a private jet to Germany with his agents. The Senegalese international is reluctant to come back and has been angered at being told that he must now return to London.
Chelsea player reportedly angry with club's decision
Bayern Munich were set to pay a €15 million loan fee for Jackson and also had a buyout option set at €80 million. But the move now seems to have been cancelled as a result of Delap's injury.
It is easy to understand why Jackson might be unhappy with how the situation has turned out. First of all, he had decided to join Bayern Munich, which is now off. Secondly, when Delap returns a few months later, the Senegalese striker might find himself as third choice once again.
That being said, this is also an opportunity for Jackson and he should have a point to prove. After all, it was only a loan move and there is a very good possibility that he would have been back at Chelsea next summer anyway.
