Chelsea's defence looks set to undergo a lot of changes over the course of this summer transfer window. An addition is expected at centre-back. Someone who can partner Levi Colwill as Trevoh Chalobah is not viewed as a long-term starter, even if he stays on. On the other hand, there is the possibility that the club could try to sign a backup left-back for Marc Cucurella as well.
Incidentally, they already have someone more than capable of filling in both those positions. Yet, it looks like they are ready to let him go this summer.
As reported by MARCA, Atletico Madrid are close to finalising the signing of Renato Veiga. Only a few details remain before the Portuguese centre-back arrives at the Metropolitano.
It was just last summer that Chelsea had signed Veiga from FC Basel. They are expected to bring in a transfer fee much higher than the one they paid twelve months ago. But in terms of talent and quality, they will be losing a lot if the Portuguese defender leaves.
Chelsea player very close to joining Spanish giants
Veiga had looked impressive whenever given a chance for Chelsea. But he left on loan to Juventus in the second half of the season. Perhaps he was not keen on playing a backup role.
He would start consistently for Juventus. And that has enhanced his reputation as well as his transfer valuation. It is believed Chelsea want a figure in the region of €40 million for the versatile Portuguese defender.
Of course, Atletico Madrid have the reputation of being one of the best defensive teams in European football under the management of Diego Simeone. So, it would not come as a surprise if Veiga goes on to enhance his reputation further playing for the Spanish giants, if a move does indeed go through.
