Chelsea players did something Liam Rosenior didn't ask for against Aston Villa

Chelsea's hopes of securing Champions League football next season were reignited after the side beat Aston Villa 4-1 away from home on Wednesday night. In doing so, the Chelsea players used their initiative outside of Liam Rosenior in the best possible way.

The Blues' latest win has seen them close the gap on Villa to just three points. The result is hugely significant in the race for top four with just nine games to play.

Elsewhere, Manchester United's 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United made Chelsea's night even better, but it wasn't just the results that pleased Liam Rosenior.

The Chelsea boss was delighted with something his team did against Unai Emery's men, and it was completley unprompted.

Liam Rosenior loved Chelsea's team huddle after going behind

Fans would've been forgivven for thinking the Blues were going to be in for a long night after Douglas Luiz opened the scoring for Villa after just two minutes.

Things didn't go as feared, though. After falling behind so early on, the Chelsea players, led by captain Reece James, took it upon themselves to gather in a team huddle on the halfway line before play restarted.

The moment symbolised real togetherness and proved the team were committed to overturning the early deficit, and Rosenior, who spoke about the moment after the game, via Football London, was thrilled with what he saw.

"It wasn’t my idea, it’s come from the players and I really like it."

Whatever was said during the team's huddle certainly worked because four goals, including a hat-trick from Joao Pedro, and a 55-minute strike from Cole Palmer, saw the Blues return to London with all three points.

Momentum must continue for Chelsea's season to be a success

Rosenior has been clear with what he expects from Chelsea from now until the end of the season.

The 41-year-old is pushing his side to finish in the top four and go as deep as possible in the FA Cup and Champions League.

Wrexham await in the FA Cup's Fifth Round on the weekend before the side travel to France for a hugely anticapted Champions League Last 16 first-leg.

The Blues must take heart from their most recent performance — not just the result — but the nature of how they won.

Coming back to beat Villa, away at Villa Park, is no easy task; very few teams can boast the same acheivement this season.

Wednesday's result was huge for Rosenior but it's now on the boss and his side to ensure their momentum continues throughout what is arguably the most defining period in the club's season so far.
