It looks like Chelsea are ready to make an official offer for the £60 million-rated player soon and a promise has been made behind the scenes.

The opening day draw against Crystal Palace showed the weakness that this Chelsea team still have. Last season, we saw them struggle against low blocks and that was the case on Sunday as well. Enzo Maresca's side struggled to get Cole Palmer involved and even when chances fell their way, namely for Estevao and Andrey Santos, they could not even hit the target. Things need to improve, and soon, if the Blues want to put up a genuine Premier League challenge.

For that to happen, they might need to add a few more options to their squad. One of them could be Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig.

It feels like we have been hearing about that move being close for a long time now and yet, nothing has materialised. It is believed that it depends on the departure of Christopher Nkunku but so far, the Blues have been unsuccessful in finding a new home for the Frenchman.

There is a positive update on the Simons situation though. As reported by Sky Sport, there is a promise behind the scenes to make an official offer to Leipzig soon.

Simons should add some inventiveness and creativity to this Chelsea team. And he would bring in a different option to Palmer.

Of course, there is no need to worry about things already. Crystal Palace are a fantastic team that won the FA Cup final against Manchester City and the Community Shield against Liverpool. They know how to get things done against big teams. So, a draw against them is not the worst result in the world by any means.

There are still a couple of weeks left in the summer transfer window. Hopefully, Chelsea will be able to strengthen this squad further between now and the end of deadline day. There have been plenty of links with Simons and Alejandro Garnacho, and they seem like the two most likely moves that could take place. But keep an eye out for a potential centre-back signing as well, with rumours cropping up about Alessandro Bastoni and Piero Hincapie as potential targets.
