Chelsea's transfer plans at the moment remain unclear following Levi Colwill's ACL injury, which could keep him out for the entire season. The Englishman was a nailed-on starter for the Blues. So, they need to find a solution. Enzo Maresca's comments appeared to suggest that they would try to sign another centre-back.

But then, there have been suggestions in the media that Chelsea are happy with their options at centre-back. Josh Acheampong is internally being viewed as someone who can play a lot more this season.

Admittedly, Acheampong has impressed whenever given a chance. So, it might be time to start playing him a lot more often.

But at the same time, there have also been reports suggesting that Chelsea are trying to bring in an experienced centre-back to take Colwill's place in the squad. The latest one links them with a Liverpool defender out of nowhere.

Chelsea reportedly preparing €50m offer for Liverpool player

As reported by Defensa Central, Chelsea have made a move to sign Ibrahima Konate, preparing a €50 million offer for this summer. But Arne Slot's side are not keen to strengthen a direct Premier League rival with one of their best players.

It remains to be seen how accurate the speculation turns out to be. On paper, there are reasons why it could happen.

Konate's current deal at Liverpool runs out next summer. There have been suggestions that Real Madrid are eyeing him as someone they would like to sign as a free agent in the future. So, the Reds might be keen to avoid a repeat of the Trent Alexander-Arnold situation.

That being said, it is hard to imagine that they would be ready to let one of their best players, a Premier League-winning centre-back, join a direct rival. Let's see how this situation plays out, but do not expect such a move to happen this summer, or ever.
