On Friday night, Chelsea fans feared the worst; they had just lost 3-0 away to Brentford in a disappointing second-half display, and had to watch the other sides in the Premier League play, knowing their side wouldn't play til the 10th of October, off the back of a three game winless run.
Chelsea's result at the Gtech Community Stadium was their 22nd consecutive Premier League game without a clean sheet, with fans questioning new manager Xabi Alonso's tactics and team selection, with Levi Colwill coming out after the game calling out their defensive display, admitting that they had been "bullied in the own box".
The player ratings didn’t reflect well on the team, however there were positives to take out of the game.
But fast forward to Saturday afternoon, Chelsea fans' mood would've slightly changed after seeing fellow London sides Tottenham and Arsenal lose, with Spurs losing this time to Aston Villa, but finally found the back of the net in the early kick-off. Then Arsenal travelled to Brighton, whom the Blues beat in their first home game of the season, which still stands as the Seagulls' only loss of the season, but Mikel Arteta's side fell victim to a 3-0 loss.
Regarding the other London teams in question, online banter was flying, with both sets of fans piling in on Chelsea over their performance in what was the opening game of the Premier League weekend. But by 5pm, Arsenal and Spurs fans were getting a taste of their own medicine after their sides also lost disappointingly.
Up until Saturday, many people, including former Chelsea and Arsenal player Ashley Cole, boldly stated on Talk Sport that he believes that "Arsenal have the right manager to go invincible again" , but was quickly proven wrong by an Arsenal performance that was widely agreed as one that was "not fit for champions."
On the other side of North London, Tottenham also have their own problems to sort out as they shipped three more goals this time to Aston Villa, with the side sitting bottom of the division after only having two points after their first five games of the season.
Although for Chelsea fans, the Brentford performance might have been a low point of their weekend, they weren't the only team to deliver an underwhelming performance, and for those who did too, this gives something, although small, that Chelsea supporters can try to smile about.
