Heading into the summer transfer window, it is very clear that there are a lot of areas where Chelsea need to improve. They had looked like potential title contenders early on in the season but as the campaign has progressed, their form has completely evaporated. As things stand, they'd be lucky to finish in the Champions League spots.

So, expect Chelsea to make several more signings in the upcoming summer transfer window. And it looks like they will stick to their policy of bringing in highly-rated youngsters and trying to develop them.

The defence is one area where the Blues could do with more options. A Netherlands international appears to have entered their radar in this regard.

As reported by Kaveh Solhekol, Chelsea are seriously considering making a move to sign Hato from Ajax this summer. The Blues' interest is longstanding and he is a player they've watched closely. He has been linked with Liverpool and Arsenal as well.

Hato is one of the most highly-regarded rising defenders in the game right now. He is just 19 years of age but has already made six appearances for the Dutch national team at the senior level.

While capable of playing as a centre-back as well, Hato has played most of his recent football in the left-back position. So, if Chelsea end up signing him, it might be as competition for Marc Cucurella in that area of the pitch.

Cucurella has been one of Chelsea's most consistent performers in recent times though. So, one has to wonder how much playing time someone like Hato would get ahead of him. And at the end of the day, there is no point signing another youngster if he is not going to be given the playing time that he needs.
