Enzo Fernandez's recent public comments landed him a two-game a suspension, and, as a result, he will not play against Manchester City next weekend.

Liam Rosenior took action against Fernandez after the Argentine hinted he could leave Chelsea in the summer while away on international duty.

The midfielder admitted he 'doesn't know' if he'll still be at Stamford Bridge next season. His comments sparked a media frenzy and put unnecessary attention on the side as they approached their final 10 games of the campaign.

Quick to punish the player, Rosenior sanctioned a two-game ban forcing Fernandez to miss last weekend's FA Cup quarter final against Port Vale and Manchester City's league visit this weekend.

While his manager may not approve of him playing against City, according to recent reports, his teammates would prefer that he is on the pitch.

Chelsea squad want Enzo Fernandez to play against Manchester City

This weekend's game against City is a huge tie. Not just in the title race, but for Chelsea's own top four aspirations too.

Already six points off fourth, although Chelsea could still qualify for the Champions League without finishing fourth, the side cannot rely on other teams and know they need to take all three points on Sunday.

Fernandez would have started had he not gone public with his unhappiness, but now sidelined, they side will be at a disadvantage, and that's not something you want, especially in midfield when playing Pep Guardiola's Blue Moon.

Consequently, according to Argentine journalist Veronica Brunati, the Chelsea squad have asked Rosenior to reverse his decision to leave Fernandez out.

Liam Rosenior must not give into players' demands

While you can argue over whether or not Rosenior's two-game ban was too harsh, the Chelsea head coach has made his decision.

There is no way he can bend to the team's demands because if he does he'll lose all credibility and respect.

Although Fernandez will be a miss, his actions have consequences, and unfortunately, his teammates will have to pick up the slack.

Playing City, home or away, is never easy, so this is an oppotunity for the likes of Andrey Santos, who put in a great performance against Port Vale, to prove he is capable of stepping his game up against one of Europe's best.

As for Fernandez, let's hope the 25-year-old learns from his mistake and doesn't put his manager and teammates in a difficult position again in the future.
