During Chelsea's 3-2 victory over Fulham, there were some key areas where the Blues will need to improve. Robert Sanchez was a clear weakness, but Xabi Alonso does have Mike Penders available. The midfield is where Chelsea needs to strengthen in the transfer window, and this would be by signing Alex Scott from AFC Bournemouth.
Moises Caicedo missed the West London derby due to an injury he picked up in training. This meant that Chelsea's midfield was Reece James and Romeo Lavia. James is the captain, and whilst he is good in midfield, he is predominantly a right-back. James is also injury-prone, so he cannot be relied upon for a full season.
Lavia has also had his fair share of injuries, which meant that he made just 12 Premier League appearances. The Belgian has failed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge since arriving from Southampton back in 2023.
Both James and Lavia got booked, but it was only the captain who played the full 90 minutes. Lavia was replaced by Enzo Fernandez, who is still being linked with a move away from Chelsea. The Blues set a deadline for teams to come in for Fernandez, which has since passed. However, the Argentine continues to be linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.
Manchester City are reportedly still interested in Fernandez. The player has wanted to leave Chelsea for some time and would be reunited with his former boss, Enzo Maresca, at City. Any potential move to Real Madrid is off after they put out a statement denying speculation earlier in the transfer window.

City also needs a new midfielder after selling Rodri to Barcelona. If Fernandez is to go to the Etihad Stadium, then it is a must that Chelsea sign Scott. The Bournemouth midfielder is one of the most highly rated young talents in the game right now.
Scott is now 23 and has represented England up to Under-21 level, but is yet to make a senior appearance. He had spells at both Southampton's and Bournemouth's academies. However, he began his senior career with Guernsey in the Isthmian League. This is the seventh tier of English football.
Scott was only 16 when he played for Guernsey, and his form for the Channel Islands side led to a move to Bristol City. He starred for Bristol City in the Championship before moving to Bournemouth. Last season in the Premier League, Scott played 37 times, scoring three times and making one assist.
Top teams have monitored Scott throughout his career. Arsenal were interested earlier in the transfer window. However, a move to the Gunners would appear unlikely now after they signed Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. Paris Saint-Germain has recently been revealed as a possible destination for Scott. Therefore, Chelsea would face strong competition for his services.
Scott is predominantly a central midfielder, but he can play as an attacking midfielder and as a right-midfielder. Chelsea would want him to play alongside Caicedo in midfield as the more attacking option. However, he could also fill in for either Cole Palmer or Morgan Rogers as an attacking midfielder. Scott could even play right-midfield for the Blues.
The midfielder would suit Alonso's 3-4-2-1 formation nicely. However, it might be difficult for him to break into Luis Enrique's 4-3-3 lineup at PSG. The Champions League winners already have Warren Zaïre-Emery, Senny Mayulu, and Fabián Ruiz as central midfield options. He would also not likely be able to play attacking midfield or wide on the right for Enrique's side. Therefore, a move to Chelsea would be more favourable for Scott at this stage in his career.
