It feels like Chelsea are linked with a new midfielder every other day. In the summer, Rodrygo was suggested as an option for the Blues. Gonzalo Garcia was also suggested as an option following his heroics at the Club World Cup. In recent weeks, they have been heavily linked with a move for Vinicius Jr. Trent Alexander-Arnold is rumoured to be on Liam Rosenior's radar. And there has been some speculation about bringing back Antonio Rudiger as well.
Now, it is time to add another name to that list. If rumours coming out of Spain are accurate, then Chelsea might be willing to make Federico Valverde one of their most expensive signings.
As reported by Fichajes, Chelsea have expressed their firm intention to sign Valverde. The Blues have done so by putting forward a bid of €120 million.
The report goes on to state that Rosenior considers Valverde the ideal player to lead his midfield. The offer of €120 million reflects that conviction.
Chelsea submit €120m bid for world-class Real Madrid midfielder
Now let's be honest. In the recent past, we have seen plenty of rumours come out of Spain, but they have ended up nowhere of significance. So, it remains to be seen how things will play out when it comes to this Valverde saga.
It is worth mentioning though that this is not the first time that Chelsea have been linked with Valverde. He is someone who is rumoured to have been on their radar for years.
Valverde has remained an integral part of this Real Madrid team throughout that time. He has even captained the team consistently this season in the absence of Dani Carvajal.
It is hard to imagine that Real Madrid would be willing to let him go unless a mega offer is put on the table. To be fair, the €120m offer might very well reflect that.
In the past, we have seen Real Madrid part ways with key players when presented with the right offer, even if they are in their primes. Casemiro, Angel Di Maria and Raphael Varane all moved to Manchester United, despite being nailed-on starters. So, could Chelsea pull off a move for Valverde?
