Chelsea have been trying to complete some late summer signings. Their attempts to bring in Xavi Simons ultimately led nowhere as the Dutchman has ended up joining Tottenham Hotspur. On the other hand, the Blues have recently announced the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United and are believed to be on the verge of bringing in Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.

This might not be the end of Chelsea's transfer business though. It looks like they are looking to complete at least one more signing before the summer window closes. And it is a Barcelona player who is on their radar.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have sent an official written proposal to Barcelona for Fermin Lopez. The initial offer worth €40 million was submitted this afternoon, right after the game.

A lot seems to depend on what the midfielder wants to do. The Italian journalist stated in another update on the situation, Barcelona have no plans to part ways with Lopez this summer following Chelsea's bid. The only way for the exit would be in case he decides to leave, with the future now in the player’s hands.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Lopez. He is a phenomenal talent, there is no doubt about that.

One has to wonder if Chelsea decided to back away from the Simons transfer saga in hopes of signing Lopez instead. And if they did, surely they would have gotten some encouragement from his camp to do so.

Lopez is not a regular starter for Barcelona but did have 8 goals and 10 assists to his name last season, showing his effectiveness. He has made a couple of appearances for the Spaniash national team as well.
