It is only recently that the 24/25 season concluded but it looks like Chelsea are already working overtime in order to get things done before the next campaign and the Club World Cup, if possible. They have already agreed a deal to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. It is believed that they are eyeing a move for Mike Maignan as well, as they look for a possible upgrade in the goalkeeping department.
On the other hand, it has already been confirmed that Jadon Sancho will not stay at Chelsea and will return to Manchester United. It looks like the Blues already know who they want as his replacement.
As reported by CaughtOffside, Chelsea have made a £55 million bid for Jamie Gittens. Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also keen on the Borussia Dortmund winger but the Blues' interest is the most advanced.
It remains to be seen if that speculation is accurate or not. If it is, then that has to be considered a significant transfer fee to offer for someone who has not exactly proven himself as an elite talent at the top level.
Chelsea submit £55m transfer bid for English winger
Gittens had a solid 24/25 campaign. He scored 12 goals and provided 5 assists in 48 appearances for Borussia Dortmund across all competitions.
Those are solid numbers. But then again, they are not impressive when compared to what Sancho was doing at Borussia Dortmund early in his career. We all know how things turned out once he made the move to the Premier League.
So, Chelsea have to be absolutely certain that Gittens has the traits to succeed in the Premier League. We have seen plenty of players in recent years who have failed to make it in England despite enjoying previous success in the Bundesliga.
