Under new manager Liam Rosenior, Chelsea faced the in-form Arsenal in the first leg of the League Cup semi-finals, losing 3-2 at Stamford Bridge. Although Robert Sanchez has been great this season, it was not his day as he gave away two goals as a result of his careless mistakes. Fortunately, Alejandro Garnacho's brace off the bench saved the day for the Blues as it kept them in the tie heading into the second leg.
With the winter transfer window halfway through, a number of players have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. However, a few players have also been linked with moves away, such as Raheem Sterling, Axel Disasi, Filip Jorgensen and David Datro Fofana. As per recent reports, a high-profile new name has joined this list, which Chelsea fans will not like.
According to L’Equipe (via Mirror), PSG have made Enzo Fernandez one of their main transfer targets. The Champions League holders have made no attempt to sign Fernandez during the January transfer window but view him as a longer-term target.
The 2022 World Cup winner became the most expensive January signing in Premier League history when he joined Chelsea from Benfica for around €121 million back in 2023, straight after his heroics for Argentina. Since then, he has established himself as one of the team's important players and captained the Blues on several occasions. That being said, the constant changes and lack of consistent success are sure to worry some of the Blues' best, Fernandez being one of them.
Chelsea superstar linked with blockbuster move to PSG
Fernandez would be a stellar addition to any club and PSG is no exception. Their midfield already includes Vitinha, Joao Neves, Fabian Ruiz and Warren Zaire-Emery, and the Argentine could add further depth and proven quality.
Chelsea, on the other hand, view Fernandez as a key component of the club's project. Furthermore, his contract runs until 2032, giving the Blues an advantage in any negotiations. But in modern football, when a player wants to depart, that ends up materialising most of the time.
Also, it remains to be seen how much Chelsea would want to part ways with the club's midfield leader. Surely, PSG would have to be prepared to pay north of €100 million if they want to make a serious run at signing Fernandez.
