Well, this has been a mixed international window for Chelsea players. We have seen some announce themselves to the world, while others, like Dario Essugo, have picked up injuries and had to undergo surgery. One of them was recently sent off in a very important match for his national team. But at the end of the day, it did not matter much.
The player we are talking about is none other than Moises Caicedo. There were question marks surrounding his fitness going in Ecuador's game against Argentina.
Caicedo had been left out of Ecuador's previous game due to 'physical discomfort'. And recent pictures from training had shown him practising with what looked like a heavily bandaged knee and thigh area.
Caicedo did end up starting against Argentina as was expected. But it was not a long night for the Chelsea superstar, who was shown a red card in the 50th minute of the game. Ultimately, that did not impact the result though, as Ecuador won 1-0 against Lionel Scaloni's Lionel Messi-less side.
Chelsea superstar shown red card in important international game
The big relief for Chelsea fans will be the fact that Caicedo did not end up suffering any sort of injury. That was what many were worried about due to the question marks surrounding his fitness going into the matchup.
At the end of the day, the Ecuadorian fans have nothing to be worried about. Not only did they win against Argentina but have also qualified for the World Cup in 2026. Caicedo's red card should be seen as a minor disappointment.
On the other hand, the result showed Messi's importance to this Argentina team, even at 38 years of age. Expect to see him at the upcoming World Cup in the United States.
Now, it is back to Chelsea duty for Caicedo. Hopefully, he will be fit and available when they take on Brentford.
