Chelsea take first step to signing Bournemouth forward

Chelsea have several areas of the squad to address this summer.

Xabi Alonso, who officially began his role of manager on Wednesday, is facing some massive decisions.

After the Blues finished 10th in the table last season, Alonso's priority will be to get the side back into Europe, and he must do so by reinventing the players he has at his disposal.

Marc Cucurella has been the first to leave. The Spanish full-back joined Real Madrid last month after a £52 million agreement was reached. Enzo Fernandez could follow him to the Bernabeu after the Argentine emerged as a target for Jose Mourinho.

There is also the possibility of Tyrique George joining Everton on a permanent deal with the Toffees' negotiations over a £25 million deal "progressing well".

In attack, Alejandro Garnacho could also leave alongside Liam Delap, Marc Guiu and/or Nicolas Jackson. And at the back, Axel Disasi is virtually guaranteed to leave after his loan spell with West Ham with goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen requesting to move on.

All of these changes will leave Alonso with some big holes to fill, and while securing Cucurella's direct replacement is top of the list at the moment, the former Bayer Leverkusen boss will soon need to focus his attention further up the pitch.

Chelsea sound out Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi

Because of the uncertainty surrounding all Chelsea's strikers, the club know they need to find at least one new forward, and according to recent reports, they've already made contact with Bournemouth over the possibility of signing Eli Junior Kroupi.

The 20-year-old attacker has been sensational since making his breakthrough at the Vitality Stadium.

Despite joining the Cherries from Lorient only last year, Kroupi has immediately adapted to the notoriously fast paced and physical Premier League. His opening campaign on the south coast under Andoni Iraola saw him score 13 league goals and helped fire the Cherries to a sixth place finish.

And according to Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips (via CaughtOffside), the Blues' sporting department have been so impressed by the Frenchman that they've already made contact with their league rivals to understand the conditions of a potential deal.

Kroupi is valued at around £70 million and has four years left on his contract. He is also a transfer target for Mikel Arteta's Arsenal as well as back-to-back UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.

The French champions are believed to be the players' preferred destination which could scupper any hopes Chelsea have of signing him.
