Despite having not yet made a senior appearance, JJ Gabriel has made headlines after announcing his decision to quit Manchester United.

The talented teenager has shot through the Red Devils' ranks and was on the verge of making his first team debut last month before dropping the bombshell that he wants to leave the club.

The youngster's situation, which saw him remove all mention of the 20-time league winners from his social media profiles, has put Europe's biggest clubs, including Xabi Alonso's Chelsea, on red alert.

The Blues face mammoth competition for the 16-year-old's signature, though, and that's because the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keen to capture him.

Chelsea learn likely outcome of JJ Gabriel saga

Even though Manchester United have all-but given up on securing Gabriel, clubs in England shouldn't get their hopes up.

According to a recent report from talkSPORT, Chelsea have been told the teenager is set to move abroad; suggesting one of the big Spanish teams are his most likely destination.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain also have a strong interest but it seems La Liga is the attacker's preferred country.

Moving abroad is unlikely to be an issue either. The 16-year-old holds an Irish passport meaning he can freely switch leagues as long as FIFA give their permission.

Blues could have dodge a bullet

No one is doubting Gabriel's ability, and certainly not his potential, but there have definitely been some big questions raised about his professionalism.

Leaving Manchester United's youth academy isn't something that many young footballers look to do, so Gabriel's situation has inevitably raised eyebrows, even more so considering he was in line to feature against Brighton in the cup just 24 hours after his decision.

While jumping ship in favour of a glamorous move to Real Madrid or Barcelona may end up working out, it's a big risk at the age of 16.

If his attitude at this age is to down tools and go somewhere else, it may not bode well for the future, and when it comes to Chelsea, the club simply cannot afford to spend any more money, or resources, on players who aren't prepared to give their all for the badge.

During his time in the United academy, Gabriel has scored 34 goals and registered six assists in just 35 matches in all competitions.

He will be free to leave the club at the end of the month with the Red Devils entitled to roughly £300,000 in compensation.
