Chelsea will be one of the busiest clubs during this summer's transfer window with the Blues expected to agree multiple deals; in and out.
Xabi Alonso is preparing to take charge from the start of next month and the Spaniard faces some huge decisions.
Marc Cucurella has already signed for Real Madrid with speculation Enzo Fernandez will follow him to the Santiago Bernabeu gathering more pace with every passing day.
It isn't just outgoings Alonso will oversee, though. The former Bayer Leverkusen boss is set to make multiple new signings as he looks to get Chelsea playing to his style.
Chelsea among Premier League clubs interested in Spurs' Lucas Bergvall
In desperate need of at least one midfielder — even more so if Fernandez does leave — Alonso is reportedly targeting Spurs' Lucas Bergvall.
According to a recent report from talkSPORT, Chelsea, along with Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, are interested in the young Sweden international.
The Blues' interest is long standing too. They made an enquiry in January but saw their interest quickly rejected. This summer looks to be a different scenario, though.
Bergvall has barely featured under Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian seems set on building a midfield that doesn't include the 20-year-old, and that has been proven by their recent £75 million offer to Newcastle United for Sandro Tonali.
Bergvall could thrive under Xabi Alonso
Suggestions Chelsea could seriously pursue Bergvall are interesting. Not only because he plays for one of the Blues' biggest rivals, but also because he's still young and has genuine potential.
Bergvall is currently away with Sweden at the 2026 World Cup, and although he didn't start either of his country's first two group matches, he was introduced in both, and had a particular impact against Tunisia.
While it remains unknown exactly what type of impact the Swede could have under Alonso, but he's certainly the type of player the Spaniard loves working with.
Young, hard working, fearless and versatile, Bergvall is the perfect type of profile for a midfielder Alonso could incorporate into his system.
The Sweden international can operate centrally in advanced, but also in deeper roles. If Fernandez does end up leaving, Bergvall could the right player to compliment Moises Caicedo in a double pivot at the heart of the midfield.
During his two years at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Bergvall, who has five years left on his contract, has scored two goals and registered nine assists in 78 matches in all competitions.
